Since our last post, we actually have had several races. The biggest one was the Kona Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k and 5k on June 23. Our running group members did a great job representing in the race and we all had a great time. Here's a couple photos of the weekend and more are available

After the Kona Marathon, there were a couple of swim races - the Hapuna Roughwater Swim and the King's Swim that took us a little out of our element. But we completed both races and had a lot of fun. Results from the Hapuna Roughwater Swim are

Following those races, there were several cycling time trials on the island - one that went to the top of Mauna Loa and one to the top of Kaloko. No easy rides, there! Results from the Pedal 2 Pauls are

Then yesterday, we were back to a Peaman race with the Red, White and Blue Biathlon. This was a 1/2 mile swim and a 3.5 mile run. Weather conditions were perfect for the race and the field was ready.

Unfortunately, the results are not online yet, so I can't provide a link to those. I'll update this post as soon as I can get those. I do know that Rani Henderson won the full course event for the ladies in her first event back after having her son, Cole. Welcome back, Rani!
And now a little note about the races - as many of you know, Peaman races are a great community event that we have here in Kona. They are free and open to all participants, which makes it a great way for kids, families, new athletes and serious athletes to all get involved. Of course, as with any event, these races are not possible without a lot of work behind the scenes. Peaman, Papa Pea, Jay Plasman, Doug Henbest and Dene Sturm have been doing a great job of making the events seem like a breeze, but they can't do it all! At yesterday's race, we were a bit lacking in the volunteer department. Thank you to Janice Blaber who jumped in to help hand out popsicle sticks as well as some others who helped with signouts. But we could still use more help in upcoming races. If we get enough people willing to help, we can all rotate throughout the year and still get to participate in some of the races. So please let any of us know if you'd be willing to help so that we can keep having these great events in town!
Up next Sunday is Team Mango's Trashcan Triathlon - a 1/2 mile swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run. But the twist is that time is not necessarily important in this one. Instead, get minutes and/or seconds deducted off your time for each piece of trash you pick up along the course. This race has the added benefit of helping clean up our community while getting some exercise in the process!
